These do the trick! August 10, 2010 Rodger S. Hergert I got these for riding my new unicycle as an inexperienced rider and I've been very happy with them. Thankfully, I haven't tested them too many times, but the falls I've taken have shown that these wrist guards definitely protect from wrist injuries for rollerbladers, unicyclists or any other similar activities. I am an average sized male and the large size wrist guards fit very well and are quite adjustable. I also find them to be quite comfortable and never feel anxious to take them off after an hour of riding.
Beginner skateboarder May 12, 2010 Jenny Fang (BOSTON, MA, US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm a beginner skateboarder and i found that i often catch myself with my hands and recently, i hurt the bone at the bottom of my thumb. I've never used any other wrist guards and went with tsg for their reputation. these guards have two hard plastic pieces that protect the front and back of the wrist. the one on top has a really big bend that makes the two ends really poke into your hands- luckily it's removable. the other plastic is not uncomfortable and cannot be removed. the wristguards themselves are made really solidly with materials that look like they would last. the padding is pretty good. another thing is that the thumb holes are a little smaller than average (i bought the small one), but if not wrapped too tightly, it does not play a huge problem.
Lastly, the wristguards are not at all flexible and really force your wrist area to bend downwards a bit. this may be a problem because when i fall, i tend to bend my wrist the other direction so i that fall on my palm. i'm not sure whether the guards are built to protect such a fall, which seems to be a pretty common way to catch yourself when you do fall backwards. if anyone knows, please comment. thanks
Fantastic choice! December 28, 2009 Christian Jakubowicz 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
A little background:
I ordered these (large size) to protect my wrists while snowboarding. Given I'm in the east, the trails here can be very unforgiving; we tend to get hard, icy, packed-down snow. As luck would have it, I sprained my left wrist before they arrived. Amazon said they would come in 3 days when I ordered them at 1am; they arrived the next day. *thumbs up*
Pros:
-Humbly priced
-Well made
-Provides comfortably firm support for my sprained wrist
-Performs its job function
Cons:
-The (p)leather rubs the skin between my thumb and index finger raw when I wear the guard for prolonged periods of time. However to its credit, it's very mild; perhaps it's just my big hands.
***This may be an issue for skateboarders, however as a snowboarder I wear under-armor gloves so it's not a problem.
-If you plan on wearing gloves over these you might want to consider getting the next size up. I have a very nice pair of Burton Gore-Tex gloves that *just barely* fit.
For the price, you can't go wrong!
bar + stitching in back is uncomfortable December 8, 2009 Andrew Kim (San Franciso, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Pros:
* The material construction is of good quality.
* Good protection with supports in front and back of wrists.
Cons:
* Kind of bulky.
* The metal bar for the back of the wrist is very uncomfortable for my wrists. For some reason they designed it so the stitching here is very thick and uneven, so juts into the back of your wrist. I'm not sure this surface which is intended to contact the back of the wrist isn't smooth.
Unfortunately, these wrist guards are uncomfortable enough that I'm going to have to return them. :(
Very Well Made September 14, 2009 R. Clark 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
These wrist guards are exceptionally well made. With a built-in metal bar protecting the wrist, I feel much better sbout my son avoiding injury if he falls off his ripstick.
